BLOOMSBURY | WC1H
If you love thin and crispy wood-fired pizza, drop everything and make a trip to Pizza Sophia in Bloomsbury where the ingredients are top quality and the prices rock bottom (£4.95+).
I went for the Pescatora with fior di latte mozzarella, anchovy, and kalamata olives for £5.95. The dough was made on site with top quality stone ground Italian flour, before being hot-fired, and was a total joy to eat. The toppings here are generous, and the salty anchovies were delightful with the ultra creamy mozzarella.
Other options include a classic Marinara (homemade tomato sauce, garlic, oregano), the Veganissimo (sweet roasted peppers, caramelised red onion, mixed mushrooms), the Americano (spicy pepperoni, fior di latte mozzarella), or the Fiorentina (baby spinach, free range egg, parmesan) - all ranging from £4.95 to £7.95.
Slightly over the LCE budget but worth noting if you have a bit of spare change, is Sophia's smokehouse pizza section. The pizzas are topped with house-smoked meats like beer-marinated beef brisket, or smoked Napoli and Toulouse sausages. Don't forget to leave room for a dessert of the day either.
It's a good idea to book ahead. Lunch time deals by the slice are available too.
