KILBURN | NW6
The Mandalay Golden Myanmar Restaurant brings the fragrant, unique taste of Burmese cuisine to Kilburn High Road, with plenty of homemade spicy tamarind sauce. My host described Burmese food as somewhere between Chinese and Indian, an accurate analysis.
The traditional vegetarian khawsay (often referred to khowsuey) is a great option. Expect noodles, coconut milk, spices, cashews and an excellent garnish of carrot, garlic and fried onions. All the textures you could want with a fresh and vibrant flavour. The curry is mild but can be spiced up upon request.
Their 12-3pm lunch deal of curry (£5.90) or noodles (£4.90) with a drink is fantastic value. Curious onlookers peek through their window but I encourage you to go ahead and give it a try.
This family-owned spot has recently made the move across town from their original location on Edgware Road.
