Sometimes, all you need is a mild and comforting katsu curry with rice. For £7.50, Japanese sushi and noodle bar Fujiyama in Brixton delivers big time with their breaded chicken version (as opposed to the more widely seen pork). Quite literally too - it's a big portion, and they do in fact deliver.

Service is speedy and friendly, and the restaurant was buzzing despite the plethora of alternative food options nearby.

By my count, another 18 main courses come in at under £8, so this a great place to keep returning to with friends without breaking the bank. But the katsu curry is a good place to start, a favourite with regulars. They also do a vegetarian version where breaded and deep-fried vegetables replace the meat.

You can reserve a table and what's more, they offer a 20% discount off the food menu between 5pm and 6pm if you mention "early bird". That would bring this meal down to £6 - don't mind if I do.

P.S. Misato in Soho is another great #LondonCheapEats spot for a katsu curry!
