SOUTHWARK | SE1
Nestled right in the middle of Waterloo and Southwark stations, The Windmill is a traditional pub serving up lagers and ales to locals and those working in the area.
It's also a favourite with the theatre crowd, as it's a stone's throw from the Young Vic and Old Vic, and these guys get particularly busy when they screen the major sporting events.
When it comes to the food, expect good Thai fare from an all-Thai kitchen crew, headed up by Head Chef Nancy. If you want to eat in during lunch (12pm - 3pm Mon - Fri), all main dishes are £7.50, from stir-frys and curries, to noodles and fried rice dishes.
We were told to make a beeline for the green curry which comes with rice, and it didn't disappoint. They also have a lunch special deal which adds spring rolls, sesame prawn toast or a vegetable samosa to your main, for another £1.
During lunch, the kitchen also pitches up a stand outside the front of the pub, serving up a range of Thai dishes to take away for just £5 - popular with those working nearby. And if you're heading to The Windmill in the evening (they serve food between 5pm - 10pm Mon to Fri, and all day on weekends) mains only go up by another £1, with everything hovering around £8.50. Still a great deal for tasty, fresh food.
