KING'S CROSS | WC1
Just a five minute stroll from King's Cross and its food giants, you'll find the friendly, family-run Paolina Cafe, where Thai classics like curries, pad thai, and noodle soups, are served from £5.95.
At lunchtime (12pm - 3pm), a generous portion of red or green curry with rice is just £6.50. I went for the beef, but you can choose from chicken or prawn (£6.95) too. The homemade curry was mild and fragrant, filled with crunchy carrots, peppers, and earthy bamboo shoots, and all served on sticky white rice. We enjoyed ours with plenty of crisp Asian beer from a nearby supermarket, since Paolina Cafe has a great BYOB policy - just £1 corkage per person.
Their dinner menu has even more choice at fractionally higher prices, though there's still a range of stir-fried flat noodle dishes like pad thai from just £6.50. Note: cash only, and prices to eat in are the same as to take away.
