Part Nordic grocery store, part café, you'll find Scandinavian Kitchen five minutes from Oxford Circus. The café serves a range of open sandwiches, wraps, and cakes. A few hot options are also served from 11.30am, including that beloved dish of furniture shopping fame - Swedish meatballs.
Here though, they are served with a choice of three salads for £6.95. The traditional creamy beetroot and apple, herby cabbage, and carrot and courgette with poppy seed I chose were all fresh, and each served in fistfuls. The meatballs (a pork and beef blend) had good flavour.
Other salad options include the likes of cured Gravadlax salmon with potato, curried cauliflower with rye and almonds, kale with hazelnut and Vasterbotten cheese, and quite a few more.
Their other pocket-friendly and filling meal options include three open sandwiches for £6.95 in (or £5.95 out), each made with dense rye bread.
Scandinavian Kitchen has plenty of seating, including a basement and a few outdoor tables. On the ground floor you are strategically placed to consider your upcoming grocery purchase while you enjoy your meal. What do you need in your cupboard more - 'Blodpudding', mustard herrings or salty liquorice? Note - minimum spend £5 for cards.
