FULHAM | SW6
New Fulham joint Stagolee's serves truly comforting Southern American food, with some cracking options under our magic £8 mark, any time of day.
I wandered in on the weekend when their brunch menu was on (11am - 4pm), and went for buttermilk biscuits with sausage, egg and cheese, and hash browns for £6.95. The biscuits were fresh out the oven, fluffy and rich with butter, and the sausage patty was house made with chicken, apple, sage and spices.
Or, you can go for a pork sausage with rosemary and thyme, or maple bacon cured and smoked in-house, both sourced from the excellent Ginger Pig butchers (who have a London Cheap Entry of their own). The hash browns were finely shredded and served in a pot, and terrific with the house hot sauce. Though this brunch might look small, it's in fact perfectly proportioned, as the components are incredibly rich and filling.
Other brunch options include waffled cinnamon and vanilla French toast served with Southern fried apples for £7.95, or eggs any style with bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast for £6.95.
I would seriously recommend Stagolee's for dinner too. You can combine items such as a piece of mild / hot / very hot skillet-fried chicken for £3.95, or a half-portion of cornmeal-battered fish of the day for £4.95, with a a side like crinkle-cut fries or cornbread for £2.95, for a great meal for under £8.
