Colombian food inside hip Brixton Arcade. As a Colombian once said, “once at Santafereno, you might as well be in Bogotá dining in a local joint”.

Their most popular offerings are their 'lunch deals', except they're available all day, and it's pretty much the thing everyone orders.

The deal involves a traditional Bogotá soup, big too, followed by a meaty main with sides of plantain, rice and potatoes (either chips or roasted). The soup changes daily between oxtail, bean, chicken, tripe (which I had, lovely). And mains tend to cycle between chicken or oxtail stew, chorizo, steak (pictured), or crispy pork belly.

During the week this costs £7.50, includes a drink, and they'll have made enough of the special to last all day. At weekends it's £8, without the drink, and it usually runs out by about 3pm. If it does, they'll replace it with another meat item from the a la carte, which is what happened during my visit (the special was oxtail stew, but I got steak because I visited around 4pm on a Saturday).

The service here is fantastic, it's family-run and been there for over ten years, and it's full of Colombian families getting full on honest cooking. Sure, my steak might have been a little overdone, but it was full of flavour, the soup was fab, and that oxtail stew has my name on it. You'll also get a little pot of lovely sauce on the table, made from avocado, lime, coriander, spring onions and chillies.

Breakfast items are well under £8 too, and sound great. Tamales? Beef rib soup with eggs and corn bread? Huevos rancheros? See you in the morning.

Feel free to give them a call to find out what their specials are that day. Note - cash only.
