CHINATOWN | W1D
Just when you think you know all of Soho's sneaky side streets, another pops up. Somehow I've never spotted Rupert Court on the fringes of Chinatown before, but an old review by food critic Jay Rayner for an affordable, no-frills Malaysian restaurant introduced me to it.
Following his advice pretty closely, we got an enormous bowl of Singapore laksa for £7.50 - a bottomless, rich, coconut soup filled with vermicelli noodles, king prawns, fish cakes and balls, chicken, dried bean curd and bean sprouts. Every mouthful contains something different.
There's plenty else for under £8, but I implore you to order the £6 roti canai - two portions of the most buttery, flaky bread with a delicious dipping sauce on the side - great for a light bite on it's own. They're both orders I'll be repeating very soon. Note - halal.
