BúnBúnBún sits at the end of Kingsland Road's 'pho mile', specialising in mouth-watering rice noodle salads via Hanoi, which are well worth queuing for.
I went for a bún (pronounced "boon") with BBQ grilled lemongrass pork and spring rolls. It's served with fresh herbs, pickles, crispy shallots and roasted peanuts, on a bed of rice vermicelli noodles, and all tossed in a tangy fish and lime sauce. The pork itself was absolutely packed with flavour, smokey from the charcoal grill, yet also zingy from the five spice lemongrass marinate. A wonderful contrast.
At lunchtimes (Mon-Fri 12-4pm), BúnBúnBún offer a range of mains at just £7 (including this one), such as búns with stir-fried lemongrass beef, tofu or spring rolls, beef brisket pho, or wok-fried noodles.
Note: you can BYOB for a £4 corkage fee per person, but they also serve alcohol inside. Go off-peak to avoid queues, else grab a beer from the offy and wait it out.
