SHOREDITCH E1 | DALSTON E8
Huge 22" New York-style pizza are served by the slice at Voodoo Ray's for £3.50 - £4, but on weekday lunchtimes (12pm - 4pm), £6.50 will get you any one of these slices, along with a salad and a soft drink, at the BOXPARK Shoreditch branch.
They use Italy’s renowned Caputo flour in their bases, import San Marzano tomatoes for the all important Napoli sauce, and feature an ever changing selection of seasonal toppings.
I went for the 'King Tubby' - a great slice with fennel and chilli sausage, crisped up cavolo nero, marinated tomatoes, and caramelised onions. Other creatively-topped slices include the 'Rubenesque' (salt beef, sauerkraut, Emmental, Russian dressing), the 'Green Velvet' (artichoke hearts, green olives, sun-blush tomatoes), and many more.
Vegans and vegetarians have plenty of choice too, with almost half the pizzas falling into these categories. The chickpea and peppery spinach salad I chose for my side had good flavour and was served in a generous bowl. Dips such as garlic mayo and sweet BBQ are available for 50p - ideal to dunk the crust in, which is crustier than the average pizza.
Even if you don't visit on a weekday lunchtime, Voodoo Ray's have a range of other deals going on. At weekends, the BOXPARK branch offers a slice and a beer for £6.50, while the Dalston branch has 'slice night' on Mondays, where any slice is just £2.50. Expect a limited amount of communal bar stool seating and some tables outside too, along with a late night license until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays at their Dalston branch.
