HOLLOWAY | N7
Ever thought Thierry Henry looked quite tasty? Or Theo Walcott? Or perhaps you're not a footie fan, and just want to eat a damn good pie? In which case, look no further than Piebury Corner, a stone's throw from Arsenal Football Stadium, and down the road from Holloway Road station.
Churning out handmade gourmet pies named after football legends, these aren't your run of the mill pastries. Each is packed with tasty meat or vegetables, and comes with a small jug of gravy. For £8, you can also get a side from a choice of mash (plain, mustard or horseradish), roast potatoes, mint peas or seasonal salad. Even better, students get £1 off and seniors £2 off, making it just 7 or 6 quid for many.
The pie done right is a beautiful and understated thing, and there's no doubting these ones are great. Take your pick from the 15 or so fillings on offer: anything from minced beef and onion to ox cheek and venison, or butternut squash with goats cheese to pork with apple and stuffing. Select your side, douse in gravy and if you have some extra change, you can add a craft beer from the dozens on offer. There's limited seating both inside and outside; expect to share a table if it's busy.
Worth noting, you can also buy their pies cold from their deli and take them home for a comfy night in, with or without a footie match.
