BAYSWATER | W2
An intimate Malaysian restaurant in Bayswater, Tuk Din is very popular with London Malaysians who will make the trip across town specifically to eat here.
So highly regarded is the food, they even have a claim to fame; Masterchef judge John Torode filmed here as part of a Malaysian cooking TV show he was doing.
Despite it's compact size, they seem happy to take bookings for groups. In fact, Tuk Din was the destination for our most recent team outing, and a reservation for all seven of us was made with no problem.
In terms of eating, skip to the Hawker's Delight page in their menu for the mains that come in below our magic £8 mark, like the mee goreng mamak - egg noodles with beancurd, eggs and shrimp fritters. Or the kway teow goreng - rice noodles with seafood, both £6.90 and both great. And if you have a bit of spare change knocking about, I'd highly recommend their beef rendang, which was probably my favourite thing on the table, for £9.50.
Whilst you could go in and dine solo or with another, and perhaps order a single plate each, this is an ideal place to go with friends, choose a few different dishes to share, with the cost coming in at around £8 a head.
Everything we ordered - including those beyond the Hawker's Delight page - was full of flavour. Staff were friendly and smiling, and there was a great vibe to the place. Points to note, they are halal and do not serve alcohol, neither do they allow BYOB. This is an authentic find; I'll be back.
