VAUXHALL | SW8
The phrase 'hidden gem' is an overused one these days, but there's no other way to describe Italo Deli in idyllic Bonnington Square. It's an oasis of calm in the backstreets of Vauxhall, owned by Charlie Boxer (whose son Jackson runs the charming Brunswick House a few roads away).
They do a range of hot dishes at lunchtime (and in the early part of the evening), all of which come in under £8. But you can always rely on their comforting lasagne, usually of the vegetarian variety, that's served up in generous portions with fresh salad on the side.
There's cosy seating inside and several more tables outside. But be prepared to share; it's got a community vibe going on.
If you want something on the go, their sub £6 deli sandwiches are excellent. Order the lamb with mysterious green sauce if it's on! If you want to take the lasagne away, it's slightly cheaper at £6.40.
