TOOTING | SW17
Tooting is awash with great curry houses and cheap eats (check out Saravana Bhavan), Apollo Banana Leaf being a prime example. They serve up fragrant, well-spiced Sri Lankan food, for ridiculously low prices - the secret is out so expect it to be busy.
The waiters try to kindly warn you when you've ordered way too much just because of the bargain price tags - try and restrain yourself, they know what they're talking about.
I'd advise starting with a mutton roll (95p!) packed with meat and cardamom, before moving on to a sizeable lamb masala dosa (a pancake filled with spiced lamb and potato masala - £5.50) with a chappathi or parotta (both 90p) on the side to mop up your neighbour's dish.
The aubergine curry and chana masala (both £3.95) are great alternatives if you're not in the mood for meat. They also have a BYOB policy with no corkage, so it's pretty hard to spend over £8. One to keep returning to.
