CANNON STREET EC4 | SOHO W1
Great crispy chicken katsu with curry sauce? Check. Huge portion of ramen with tons of seafood? Check. Filling meals for under £8? Sorted.
Taro by Cannon Street is one of two branches, the second being on Brewer Street in Soho. It's a lunch stalwart in the area, and offers a huge range of Japanese food including sushi, noodles and rice.
I opted for the chicken katsu curry in a bento box, which came with rice, salad, miso soup and edamame beans, for £7.90. The great chicken katsu by itself is £6.90, and is already a filling portion.
We also ordered the seafood ramen (£6.50), which ended up being a huge portion of noodles with plenty of mixed seafood, crab sticks, and a flavourful broth.
This is an ideal place for both lunch, or for an early evening dinner. And if you go to the Cannon Street branch after 5.30pm, all the sushi is 50% off!
Note: there is limited seating available at the Cannon Street branch, with more in Soho. The Soho menu does differ slightly, in that it is generally more pricey - the bento boxes here are bigger and more expensive, and the seafood ramen also costs more. However, the Soho branch does still have several other options under £8.
