GREENWICH | SE10
Kitcho is a neighbourhood jewel in Greenwich, passionately serving authentic Japanese food at astonishing prices.
Armed with £8, I chose the tenzaru soba (pictured) - a heap of chilled buckwheat noodles, fresh prawn tempura, and an incredibly more-ish dipping sauce.
The noodles should be dipped briefly into the sauce before eating, which is a salty and umami concentrate of ingredients like soy, kombu and bonito flakes. The contrast with the sweet, plump and hot prawn tempura makes for a wonderfully light and satisfying dish.
If you fancy something heartier, you could opt for one of their excellent udon soup bowls (from £5.50), or a fried yaki udon or yaki soba dish (from £6.90). But the owner urged us to go for the soba, as they reckon it's some of the best in town. I haven't tried them all, but the ones I have tried were delicious... Soba so good?
Kitcho also have a lunch deal from Mon - Fri 12pm - 3pm, where staples like tonkatsu curry, katsu curry, a range of ramen, and yakisoba, are all priced at £6.90.
