This is a restaurant I've visited many times for dinner and Sunday lunch, but my latest foodie win was taking a chance and dropping by on a weekday lunchtime, to find a couple of great options for London Cheap Eats.
You could easily just go for a freshly made bowl of soup for £4, but since you decided to make an occasion of it, make the upgrade to toastie status for just £2 more.
You can trust the team and chefs as they’ve worked in kitchens such as St. John Bread & Wine and the Eagle in Farringdon, plus they also own The Anchor & Hope and Canton Arms.
You may well have the place to yourself, so grab a seat at the bar and watch the chef team prep for what is always a busy dinner service.
In this £6 lunchtime pairing, expect some top ingredients such as Ogleshield Cheese from Neal's Yard Dairy and bread from Brick House Bakery, whilst the soup changes twice a week.
The mushroom soup I had was thick and hearty; very obviously made from scratch. But what blew me away was the toastie - up there with the London Cheese Truck version I seek out around town. If you’re in the area, I strongly suggest dropping in.
Note: this lunch item is available Tuesday to Friday, 12pm - 2.30pm.
