DEPTFORD | SE8
Panda Panda is a colourful, no frills café in Deptford serving Vietnamese street food classics from around £4 (that's just half the LCE budget!).
Their extensive menu covers everything from banh mi, to summer rolls, noodles, pho, curries with rice and even bubble tea. I tried their grilled pork belly noodles (£5.99 eat in / £4.49 take away) with peanuts, herbs and fish sauce. The toppings were very generous, with the lemongrass marinade cutting through the fattier strips of pork deliciously.
Also well recommended are their banh mi, which are made fresh and come in gloriously crispy and warm baguettes. I tried the Banh Mi Vietnam with chicken liver pate, steamed pork, soy sauce and coriander for £4.19, which was vibrant and delicious. Other fillings include char siu (Chinese BBQ pork), satay chicken, or sweet peppers and mushroom. Note: cash only.
