Assenhiems 56 has made quite a name for itself since first launching all the way back in 1989, now with three branches dotted around The City. They are renowned for serving up gloriously grilled chicken with a South American twist to the lunchtime masses - an ideal Friday lunch to power you through to the weekend. Although the afternoons are never that productive.
Go for the regular size of two whole, boneless, marinated thighs, grilled until slightly charred - trust me, it's all you need. Select your two sides from a choice of rice, grilled vegetables, salad or grilled new potatoes. Say yes to the Tabasco. Say yes to their much-loved green sauce made from coriander, spices and cold pressed rapeseed oil. And you're all set, for just £8.
Whilst they're most famous for their chicken, there is one hot sandwich that always leaves me in indecision turmoil; the traditional street eat of pulled beef patacones for £5.95.
A whole beast worth of beef, slow-cooked into next week, with an authentic Colombian ahi sauce-made from spring onions, tomato and white wine vinegar, all sandwiched between two fried plantain slices and topped with freshly made guacamole. Gluten free too. You can also add a can of drink and kettle chips to make this a £7 meal deal.
It's so juicy, you'll wish you brought a bib. Bread is so last year.
