CROYDON | CR0
It's not often you find truly spicy food in London. I'm talking no holds barred spicy. When it comes to Roti Masters in Croydon, they definitely don't hold back.
The medium-sized takeaway shop isn't much to look at, hidden away from the busier main roads. But these guys have become a local favourite, serving a variety of fragrant Trinidadian dishes.
A great shout is their rice box with a meat curry for £7.50 - I always go for the goat. Flavours are deep and rich, and if you feel like going 50p over budget and really stuffing your gut, you can get a side of plantain for £1.
They're also particularly known for their meat roti. Mine came steamy, soft and stuffed with curried goat and potatoes (£6). Again, get some plantain as a side. The vegetarian entries are winners too - think pumpkin, spinach, and channa with potato. Also, they're such monsters you could even enjoy one roti over two meals.
