MANSION HOUSE | EC4
At Scarpetta, fresh pasta is made by their very own skilled pasta makers each morning.
One of the two founders is from Southern Italy, as is the Pasta Master and the Master Chef. These guys use products sourced directly from the mills and farms they've known from their childhood.
Busy city workers happily queue for this lovely handmade pasta, both at lunch and at dinner, where a small portion starts at £4.50, and a large is £6.90. The sauces change often, but on my visit included mushroom with truffle, and spicy Calabrian and Tuscan sausages in tomato.
Impossible to choose between the two, Scarpetta understand just how crippling food envy can be, and allow customers to go half and half for large portions. Both were delicious, and the sauces perfectly silky. I topped mine with mild ricotta, but you can choose either parmesan or pecorino too.
Nothing is over £8 at Scarpetta, whether you go for a pasta, or one of their other hot mains such as chicken Milanese, pesto lasagna, or aubergine parmigiana (all £6.90). There's plenty of seating inside this slick site, or you can take your food to go. They're also opening a second branch in Canary Wharf soon.
