ST KATHARINE DOCKS | E1
Despite the wonderful location, St Katharine Docks has never quite managed to attract the foodie crowd, due to a glut of uninspiring chain restaurants and coffee shops.
But that seems to be changing, with the likes of Traders Wine Bar, Bravas Tapas, and now Emilia's Pasta, raising the bar.
Emilia's is a friendly Italian kitchen by the waterfront that focuses on freshly made pasta dishes with simple, delicious ingredients. Their pasta is all handmade on site - rigatoni, bucatini, pappardelle, ravioli and more. On the cheap eat front, you want to go for the foolproof gnocchi with tomato sauce, freshly chopped basil and fresh buffalo mozzarella. That will set you back £7.75, or £6.50 without the cheese.
If you are a pesto fan like me, go for the casarecce with parmesan, pecorino and basil pesto for £8. And if you can find an extra 50p in your back pocket, I recommend stretching to their superior bucatini carbonara with pancetta for £8.50. There's also top notch burrata, affogatos and negronis, if you really want to make a night of it.
Due to its size, they only take reservations on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but you shouldn't have to wait too long anyway. Most of the seating is at the counter in front of the chefs, or round the edges, and there are a couple of conventional tables in the centre. The staff are a charming bunch, and will not rush you out as soon as the last piece of gnocchi has disappeared.
