SWISS COTTAGE | NW3
Trev and his Jamaican ‘flavas' stop by Swiss Cottage Farmer’s Market every weekday in the morning, and he trades until he sells out.
I’d recommend arriving around lunchtime, when most of his food is out and ready to serve. Having moved away from competition in Harrow, this more central location allows the uniqueness of Trev’s food to shine, whilst bringing exotic flavours to the market.
A charming and inviting Trev poured an avalanche of rice and peas into large stainless steel trays, straight from the hob at the back. Like the country, this Jamaican stall is colourful and full of variety. Choose ackee sailfish, pepper steak, curried goat, or jerk chicken, all with either rice n peas, or steamed white rice.
I went for Trev's full-bodied and comforting stew of curried goat with white rice (£6.50), and pushed the boat out with the addition of ripe and sweet plantain (60p). I did have to wait a few extra minutes for the plantain to be cut and fried, but it was done to order and worth the wait.
