OLD STREET | EC1
Want to eat healthy, but can't bear the thought of a packed lunch of lettuce?
Enter The Salad Kitchen on Whitecross Street, with their freshly made Crunchboxes, consisting of four different and piled high salad medleys, a large sprinkling of homemade sourdough croutons, and your choice of four to five different salad dressings.
A small is £3.90, a large is £4.50, and if you're feeling spendy and have an extra £1 knocking about, you can add a generous portion of shredded chicken or grilled halloumi. Your lunchtime salad will never have looked so great, tantalising or tasty!
Expect the likes of beans with spinach and feta, mint and cucumber couscous, roast potato and parsnips, and red cabbage and carrot pickle. Portions may not look huge at first glance, but when you consider the carbs and vegetables within, the boxes are very filling. You may even struggle to finish the small, especially if you add a protein, which they incidentally add so liberally, it almost feels like theft.
Salad Kitchen is a busy lunch venue, so don't be surprised to see a long queue. Persevere though, as its popularity is well earned and you'll be one happy and healthier person for it. Note: this is mostly a take away place, but there is some limited seating.
