OLD STREET | EC1
Tucked away at the end of Whitecross Market is a small van serving out some incredible vegan street food.
With a previous award for Best Main Dish at the British Street Food Awards, husband and wife duo David and Charlotte Bailey dish out cartons of their near legendary vegan Buddha Bowl to the masses.
Starting off with brown rice doused in a fragrant Massaman curry (with potatoes, pineapple and soya chunks), they add a carrot kimchi pickle, steamed greens, and a seed sprinkle, with a small being £4.50 and a large £5. For £1 more you can add two slices of grilled halloumi, and finally, chilli sauce and flakes (definitely recommended!)
A perfect balance of flavours, the sweet coconut curry compliments the tangy pickle and crunch from the seeds. I ordered the halloumi as an extra to round off my meal, but there’s more than enough food without it to satisfy even the hungriest of customers.
It’s easy to see why the queues for this little van can grow wildly long, but they’re quick to serve and you’ll find yourself at the front in no time. Regardless, it’s worth the wait, and not only will it make for a delicious and healthy lunch, but your wallet won’t be complaining either.
