ALDGATE EAST E1 | BARBICAN EC1
A popular lunch spot with city folk, the two branches of Momo'wich serve up a concise pan-Asian street food offering that all comes in at well under our magic £8 mark. Expect the likes of pad thai, laksas, steamed buns, and street bowls, where something tasty is served with jasmine rice.
Think BBQ pork, tofu curry, chicken teriyaki, roast duck, chicken satay, masaman chicken curry, and daily specials. We were advised their strongest dish to be their beef rendang street bowl, so we made a beeline.
A generous amount of 12hr slow-cooked meat and potatoes in their special spice blend, fragrant and tasty but not overly bold, served with pickled cabbage, fresh red chilli and coriander. Medium £4.95, large (pictured) £5.95.
If you're after a bit more fibre from your meal and want to swap out the jasmine for brown rice, it's an an extra 30p. There's a fair bit of space to eat in, but expect to share a table when it's busy.
