Lavender Hill's Mien Tay has been a huge hit with the locals for several years now, serving up generous portions of Vietnamese food at very reasonable prices.
If you want to get full for under £8, then you've got to go for their enormous, comforting bowl of beef pho (rice noodle soup with sliced beef) which comes endorsed by Sunday Times critic AA Gill - "My (Pho) was heaven — worth going to Battersea for all on its own." You can chuck in some brisket as well for an extra 50p if you are feeling fancy.
The stir fried goat with galangal (£7.80) is also superb, but a necessary portion of steamed rice (£2.20) pushes it over the £8 mark. Complimentary prawn crackers to start and an orange to finish are a nice touch.
There is the option for takeaway, but only if it's not too busy at the restaurant, and there's another branch in Hoxton. Enjoy!
