CHINATOWN | WC2
Joy King Lau sits in central Chinatown, serving a great selection of Cantonese comfort food under the £8 mark.
Options include dishes like roast pork braised noodles (£7.30), or wonton noodle soup (£7.30). I went for their beef brisket noodle soup, which for £7.50, was an incredibly generous portion.
The broth was deep, savoury and flavoured with Chinese spices, submerging a mountain of egg noodles. The beef brisket itself is a fattier cut with lots of tendons, cooked long and slow. The result is tender and delicious. Though, if you're not into fattier cuts of meat, you might be better off with one of Joy King Lau's other hearty noodle soups instead.
I didn't come close to finishing this dish; this may be linked to an ambitious side-order of Joy King Lau's roast duck. No comment.
