CAMDEN | NW1
The Cottons family have recently blessed Camden with the greatest possible gift - a terrific jerk pit and reggae bar. Ma Petite Jamaica is a place that ticks all of my boxes.
In a bright, joyous and typically stereotypical Caribbean environment that immediately lifts you out of the frequent London gloom, you can sample delicious and authentic Caribbean cuisine.
With sharing platters working out at around £6 between two, they have everything you’re looking for; dumplings, rice n' peas, plantain, sweet potato, ribs, chicken, curried goat, and roti.
The oxtail and goat are extremely popular so be warned - once they’re out, they’re out. If you know what you want, come and get it earlier - takeaway is also available.
The pièce de résistance has to be their list of 12pm - 4pm lunch deals, each leaving you more than full at a pocket-friendly £7.50. Better yet, the deal ends just as 5pm happy hour begins, with special cocktails dropping to a fiver.
From this list, choose from curried goat, chicken stew, fish curry, chickpea and pumpkin curry, and more. I ordered the largest plate in the deal - meaty pork ribs smothered in a rich, sweet and sticky BBQ sauce, alongside mildly spiced jerk chicken wings, rice n' peas, fried plantain, and a light and fresh mango salsa. Also, they're open until late every day of the week.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
