What we do
It’s no secret London is a pricey city to socialise in, but it’s also full of solid, inexpensive feeds - most people just don’t know where to find them. That's where we can help. Our website directs discerning customers to the best cheap food in London for £8 and under, advising not only where to go, but also what to order.
Our website aims to assist both Londoners and visitors alike in seeking out a good dining experience that doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Sure, there’s always a place for the finer things in life, but there’s no arguing that wonderful feeling of having a good meal out and not recoiling when the bill arrives.
We don't guarantee a gourmet dinner or fine dining experience, but what we can promise is a solid and tasty cheap eat in London. Chuck in a couple of beers and a few good friends, and that sounds like a pretty good time to us.
How we came about
"During eight months of travel taking up most of 2015, I realised, when I did return home, I was going to have a lot less disposable income than when I left.
I like to go out, quite a bit. I still very much wanted to be an active member of London's dining scene, enjoying the fantastic meals it has to offer on a frequent basis, but without the £20-£60 (and beyond) price tag each time. And I figured there were others like me.
I thought to myself: wouldn't it be great if there was an ever-growing, comprehensive guide of the best budget food in London, made up of trusted and objective opinions, suggesting not only on where to go, but also what to order.
As I pondered this, I realised it didn't exist; I figured I'd better do something about that.
And so, the idea of London Cheap Eats came to be."

We have four main criteria for a dish to make it onto London Cheap Eats, what we like to call the four F’s:
Fresh | The food must be tasty, freshly prepared, and of good quality
Filling | It must be enough to alone leave the average appetite satisfied
Frugal | It must be truly cheap, either £8 or less
For a friend | It must be something we would genuinely recommend to a friend
Why £8? £10 seemed too high, £5 seemed too low, and we're all about meeting in the middle.
What we don't cover: national and international brands.
We have four main focuses:
1) To reveal the hidden gems and local favourites not everyone knows about
2) To cover the entirety of London; all its zones and all its boroughs
3) To represent our findings with both striking visuals and succinct and snappy text
4) To support the city's independent establishments and London-centric chains
All our entries are categorised into the following groups:
Restaurant Dish | Fresh and filling food enjoyed sheltered from the elements
On the Go | For when you require fortifying food on the move

Multi-course | So cheap, you can get more than one thing and still stay under budget
Meal Deal | Those magic deals and dishes only on at certain times. Get in the know
All meals are paid for out of our own pocket. All words and photography are our own, and our write-ups are based on our own experiences.
London Cheap Eats will continue to grow, with new entries added each week. The task of discovering and sharing the city's best cheap eats doesn't really have a finite end. But we hope this site will go some way in helping - both our fellow Londoners and visitors alike - find a meal that's fresh, filling and frugal.
We want the people of this great city to be a part of our community. Different opening hours? A new location? Has the price changed?
We do our best to ensure the information on this site is kept as up to date as possible, but sometimes things slip the net. Which is where we call upon the vendors featured and our fellow Londoners.
If things are no longer quite how we say they are on the site, please let us know so we can find out the latest information and correct it. We'll be forever grateful.
